The National Park Service Unstable Slope Management Program (NPS USMP) uses this mobile application to collect information about unstable slopes adjacent to transportation corridors so that land managers have the opportunity to proactively manage these geotechnical assets.
The mobile application collects data from three input forms: 1) Slope Rating & Information form, 2) Slope Maintenance form, and 3) New Slope Event form. These data are mostly tabular, but photos and other documents can be attached to forms. Users of the USMP Mobile Application are Federal credentialed employees and partners.
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) collected includes the observer name, email, and phone number. Other information collected includes information about unstable slopes adjacent to transportation corridors so that land managers have the opportunity to proactively manage these geotechnical assets.
The NPS USMP uses the information collected for proactively managing unstable slopes (landslides and rockfall) that affect NPS transportation corridors and other facilities. In addition, it is used to proactively plan for risk reduction.
The NPS USMP mobile application transmits only the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and information about unstable slopes collected to the USMP database. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), other Department of the Interior bureaus, and other federal, or authorized private sector entities with valid asset management needs for accessing the USMP database will be able to view any information associated with an unstable slope entry.
The NPS USMP takes the security of all PII very seriously. Precautions to maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of the information collected through the USMP mobile application include access controls designed to limit access to the information to the extent necessary to accomplish our mission. We will routinely test our security measures to ensure that they remain operational and effective.
